David Maison, PhD

Postdoctoral Scholar

David grew up in Battle Creek, MI, and attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate degree in Human Biology and master’s degree in pharmacology. His first lab job was working on Cystic Fibrosis genetics under Dr. Luckie. During undergrad he founded a student organization and worked as a teaching assistant. Following graduation, his first lab position was in Zoetis doing animal genetics.

David furthered his education at the University of Hawaii, earning a graduate degree in Tropical Medicine. He worked on SARS-CoV-2 under Dr. Gerschenson, acquiring expertise in mitochondria, bioinformatics, and virology. Notably, he published five first-author papers during this period, with three more either under review or ready for submission.

Beyond his dedication to the lab, David enjoys reading, chess, and scrabble in his leisure time.
