Gerong (Helen) Zhang

UC Visiting Student

Helen grew up in China and is attending UC Berkeley for her undergraduate degrees in Molecular and Cell Biology, and Nutritional Science. Her first lab job is working on insulin resistance and diabetes progression model using stable isotope and mass spectrometric methods under Dr. Hellerstein. During undergrad, she enjoys learning about various areas in biology (metabolism, endocrinology, immunology, herpetology, etc), anything related to automobiles, and doing interesting engineering projects such as building a canoe out of concrete to compete with other universities on the west coast.

When not in the lab, Helen can be found backpacking/hiking, and exploring different beaches and cool buildings in the Bay Area.
